This song has been covered many many times by artists such as Sam Cooke,Marv Johnson,Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong,Sammy Davis Jr. and many others. This version is very unique since the lead singer (Jimmy Ricks) sings the whole song in bass. This song is from "Porgy and Bess". Enjoy!

  • @crayyawn The song is from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess opera, so the original would have been performed by whoever sang it on opening night. There's probably a cast list somewhere buried on the internet! Would be fascinating to compile a list of all the diverse versions. Radio NZ Summertime season closed every afternoon with a different version of the song this year. Not sure if they played this one...

This is a George Gershwin tune from Porgy & Bess. He was an important bridge between jazz & classical music as well as black & white America.
