This song was written and recorded in 1977 by James Taylor. The LP was just titled JT and Linda Ronstadt sang backup vocal. I heard this song on YouTube sung by George Jones, and it sounded so familar to me. Then it hit me, that James Taylor sang this song too. I hope you like it. The drinks look so pretty, all icey and cold.

  • I think this video needs more recognition. George Jones' version is water compared to the fine bourbon of this song...and Jones gets all the credit. JT all the way!

  • @elazarn2 Thanks for the support. I agree!!! This is JT's song all the way!!! Back when I posted this video, I was surprized that no one posted him singing the song before. I am so glad it is getting heard and recognized that it is originally JT's song. Something that I learned from my listeners... Thanks!

  • Are you certain that it wasn't his wife at the time (Carly Simon) who wasn't the back-up singer on this track? I no longer have the album, but am almost positive I saw her name among the contributors...

  • @goheen1701 The album is a superstar fest. Several key vocalists of the decade also make an appearance. Linda Ronstadt backs up JT on the gorgeous country-tinged, honky tonk "Bartender's Blues." JT receives assistance from his ex-wife, Carly Simon who performs an exquisite harmony vocal on the stunning, "Terra Nova" (also penned by the couple). This is a review of the Album. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • We love us some James Taylor.

  • @ciarraibuzz Yeah, James Taylor is cooool !!!

  • this song makes me want to continue down my alcoholic path

  • @swiggy58a First of all, if George wrote it, why does James get credit for it everywhere including his own album "JT" and George's album featuring (and named after) the song? Second of all, "version" is defined as 1. a particular account of some matter, as from one person or source, contrasted with some other account. 2. a particular form or variant of something. So, they are different versions of the same song.

  • @elazarn2 Bullshit! George wrote it. I love JT. This is my favorite "version", too! But the Author of a Song does THE Version....not "a" version.

  • James & Carly did an interview with Dick Cavett and if memory serves I believe James said he wrote the tune for George Jones

  • George Jones recorded it, he asked James to sing back up.

  • @elazarn2 i like both versions pretty much the same but if it weren't for george jones and james being a fan of him he probably wouldn't have wrote this song at all considering he did it with jones style of country in mind and said he tried sounding as much like him as he could

  • @lanes58 Yeah, but....if George Jones records one of your songs; then you have written one HELL of a country song! Comprende'; Amigo? Nobody loves JT more than me!

  • @lanes58

Uh, not "much later"- just the next year, 1978.
