An impressive international gesture came from symphony orchestras from all over the world by releasing a protest video message under the joint name 'soldier of orange for the orchestras of the netherlands'. Search youtube with this text string; a statement by conductors and artistic directors is followed by a performance of the opening sequence of the music Rogier van Otterloo composed for the film 'Soldier of Orange'.

If only they would smoke something, that might open up the dormant organs they keep hiding inside their thick skulls a bit.

Protest actions and demonstrations by artists and other representatives of the cultural world and their supporters have had no effect.

Thanks for this. What a ludicrously absurd situation. What are the politicians smoking in your country?? I find their strategies abhorrently disturbing. I think major mainstream artists should just boycott The Netherlands altogether, in protest of these ridiculous policies. Do you know of what stand has other countries taken on this laughable situation?

Thanks for the commentary. It's obviously a tough period for the arts in your country, and I also dislike smirking, clueless bureaucrats. Yet I'm confident you'll yet have the last laugh. He's underestimated the power of creative people to his own detriment. He also fails to understand that the man in the street can appreciate great music, regardless of genre--and there's more access to great music, today, than ever before.
