@harrubacool Thanks for the comment. I was never one to actually sit down and transcribe other people's solos or licks. I was always more interested in just working with the scales and chords and coming up with my own ideas. I know that's not the way that most players go about doing it, but I think it does contribute more to getting your own sound together.

If you have a standard I-IV-V (C-F-G)
progression, and play C Ionian on the first chord, then F Lydian on the fourth, and G Mixo-Lydian on the fifth, you are still in C major key, unless you make it a clear descernable difference to the listener that your tonal center has changed.
Playing modally would be like playing C Lydian on the I and V chords, and mixing in C Mixo-Lydian on the I and IV. because they do not have the defining modal scale degrees, so its up to you to put them there.

I got a question about the modes.
Do you need to play the modes against a specific chord.
Or do you need to use if using lydian the 4th note of the major scale.
Or is it a combination

In the real, non-theoretical world all you're doing is playing the parent major scale over a modal chord change to bring out the sound of the particular mode. If you know your major scales in all positions then you already know how to play all the modes. What you need to investigate and learn is how to build modal chord changes. Frank Gambale has a few good vids on how to build modal chord changes. Start there.
