I get why they would react in such a fashion, they saw the billboard as an affront to their belief and saw the defacing of it as self defense.

You do bring up a cogent point though, you mentioned about how treating someone the way you wish to be treated is an innate characteristic of human beings or at least should be. Is it, i'm not so sure, i think its merely a learned response in order to curry favor.

@atheistworstenemy No, its not. For one, the Bible says there will be many who claim to know God, but God does not know them. Otherwise common sense and seeing what others say and do shows that it is easy to say you are something but not actually understand, or simply lying to oneself and others.
