maytag blues newton iowa

i'm from a small town in iowa called newton. currently it is the hq for maytag washers and dryers but in November the plant will be closing after something like 60 or 70 years of operation. i have 3 immediate family members who have worked or are working at maytag now. it's a sad to thing to see but it is happening all across the united states as our manufacturing base is being exported to countries like china and mexico. people say that service industries will take up the slack and while it's true that the new iowa speedway has been opened in newton, these low-paying jobs can not replace maytag. Ralph Hake is the ceo that ran maytag into the ground and he received a 9.4 million dollar bonus when 100s of people will be losing their jobs. it truly sickens me.

i bought a new maytag washer/dryer in 2006, spent over 2 thousand bucks and i thought i was supporting a worker in iowa and getting a great product. neither was true, dryer is falling apart, washer makes my clothes stink. my old 1985 models were great, wish i still had them. shame on maytag! do not buy their inferior products, unless you have money to waste.

All those guys in Newton can give a big thanks to Whrilpool for this.  THey are the ones that bought out Maytag and closed the plant down. If i can help I will NEVER buy a new Whirlpool product!

Maytag left Newton? I didn't know that. I've got family and friends there...never heard anything about it. It's a shame for the people who lost their jobs.
