Just so uncompromising... I remember first watching this film and it was like being with Warren Oates, all the way... sweating, delirious, driving for miles and miles on this awful, doomed mission, encountering the worst of humanity in rape and death on the way. The inescapable conclusion to the "road movie" craze of the early 70s

Sam peckinpah?......no one ever did it better......strange role for eternal 'good guy' Gig Young.....he was killed by a bullet in real life too.....he killed himself and his wife in a murder/suicide in a London hotel a few years after this movie was made.
