The best recorded version of Doc doing SGB is on the old Vanguard album "Southbound" -- He takes five choruses, each one hotter than the one before -- five choruses that changed my life forever back in 1969-70. Doc Watson defines taste, musicianship, class, technique, power, you name it.
Without Doc, I don't think we would have Clarence, Tony, Bryan, etc.
Just my opinion, but I love this man and hope he lives forever.
