Happy Planet is a short animated film aimed at a very young audience. Using the industry level software Maya, Happy Planet was made by students nicknamed 'The Maya Maniacs', myself being one of them. The point of making this film was mainly for fun, yet it was also to prove that kids of ages as young as 10 could use the software, before even moving on to higher education. I was 16 at the time, so it was great to be involved in this project and see these kinds of opportunities being offered to younger people.
The film has been shown at Channel 4 Studios and also at Autodesk' (then Alias') 3December 2004.
The Maya Maniacs would meet up once a week at a venue not far from where I lived and be given tutorials on using Maya by a guy called Rob Jones. He was also in charge with the making of this film, and developed a new BTEC course for students (pre-university) which has since been a very good success.
