Patrice Cormier Cheapshot Elbow on Mikael Tam

Patrice Cormier Hits Mikael Tam with his elbow right to the face and knocks him on the ground. Mikael Tam severed a serious concussion, lost teeth, and possibly a broken jaw. In my opinion Patrice Cormier should be suspended indefinitely and be banned for the QMJHL.

Team Canada's world junior captain Patrice Cormier was ejected from a QMJHL game in overtime when he delivered a head shot to Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam.

Cormier, a forward for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, came off the bench for a line change and cut through the faceoff circle at centre ice, laying what appeared to be an elbow on Tam in open ice.

Following the hit, Tam was convulsing on the ice before being taken off on a stretcher. Tam suffered trauma to the skull and brain and lost many teeth. He is now in stable condition in hospital and will remain under observation for at least two days.

Cormier, a native of Cap-Pele, New Brunswick, was traded to the Huskies on January 7th. The 19-year-old was playing in just his third game with the team.

Following the game, Remparts head coach Patrick Roy filed a complaint with the Quebec Provincial Police. They collected several testimonies, and it appears that Cormier will face discipline from the QMJHL.

Tout indique donc que le capitaine de léquipe canadienne qui a remporté la médaille dargent au dernier Championnat du monde de hockey junior subira les foudres du préfet de discipline de la Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec.

Cormier est un joueur banni de toute ligue de hockey. Il ne sait pas JOUER. Deux coups de coude à la tête en moins d'un mois... Pas fort (voir Cormier vs Anton Rodin). Ce type de joueur m'écoeure littéralement.

The seizure was to kick his brain back into gear, If your hit hard enough in the head you will black out and your brain needs a jump start. Seeing this, it means he got hit extremly hard. Poor dude.

What's the difference between purposefully hurting someone on the street and purposefully hurting someone on an ice rink? Now I admit there are sports where you purposefully hurt your opponent (mma, boxing, etc.) but is hockey one of those sports? (Or should it be?)
