Takashi Ozaki is a veteran mountaineer with a successful Everest summit but he hasn't climbed at altitude for 15 years. These three climbers, along with the Nepalese Sherpa Lhakpa Dorjee and supported by a back-up team including Bruce Hasler, are going to try to summit Makalu. This is a gripping account of the struggle to acclimatise, the struggle to navigate in appalling conditions and the final ascent with only three expedition members still climbing - Guy, Lhakpa and Takashi. After the horror of an avalanche, the three finally reach the summit.
