One of the most heartfelt performances ever recorded: Elgar conducting an inspired BBC Symphony Orchestra in a performance of his Prelude to the oratorio The Kingdom, recorded in London in 1933.

The video portion is made up of rare still and moving images of Elgar, plus scenes from his beloved Malvern Hills and Worcester Cathedral in England.

For the beautiful pictures of Malvern and Worcester thanks to Peter Aston, David Benton, Sean Crawford, Chris Eltman, Andrew J. Kelsall, Steve McDonald, Alan Trow, and especially 'Flash of Light' for the inspiring images.

  • Thanks for posting this great music and those precious videos/pictures. Elgar seems like a humorous man.

  • @scottxu Thank you. Everything I have read about Elgar shows he had a really wonderful sense of humour, as well as being a wise and wonderful man and great composer. He has been an idol of mine since my teenage years. Jack

  • Elgar wrote many beautiful melodies, but none is so ravishing (I think) as the "Holy Ghost" theme in THE KINGDOM.

    Many thanks for sharing.

  • Superb piece, containing one of the greatest themes in all music. The Kingdom is a hugely under-appreciated work.

  • Simply lovely!

  • Thanks for posting this great music.
