I understand that the family, when en famille, spoke english. Alexandra was Queen Victoria's granddaughter and spent much time in England . . .

isn't this film simply called "Nicholas and Alexandra" ? If it's the film I've seen it is an absolute epic of cinematography,around 2 hours long & compulsive viewing!

This is an extraodinary, unique film. It was shot as a continuous thread - the camera was never turned off nor were their shots from different angles. It is a towering cultural achievement, like so much in Russia.
