Grand Palais e Petit Palais

GRAND PALAIS
O Grand Palais des Beaux-Arts (também chamado de Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées e popularmente conhecido apenas como Grand Palais) é um edifício singular da cidade de Paris situado no 8º arrondissement. Localiza-se na Avenue Winston Churchill, nas proximidades dos Campos Elíseos. Faz parte integrante do conjunto arquitectónico formado pelo Petit Palais e Ponte Alexandre III.
O Grand Palais começou a ser construído em 1897 para albergar a Exposição Universal de 1900, celebrada entre 15 de Abril e 12 de Novembro daquele ano, envolvendo um complexo processo de gestação no qual participaram vários arquitectos, no mesmo lugar onde se situava o Palais de l'Industrie, realizado para a Exposição Universal de 1855.
Destacado pelo estilo ecléctico da sua arquitectura, denominado estilo Beaux-Arts e característico da Escola de Belas Artes de Paris, o edifício reflecte o gosto pela rica decoração e ornamentação nas suas fachadas de pedra, o formalismo da sua planta e realizações até então insólitas como o grande envidraçado da sua cobertura, a sua estrutura de ferro e aço à vista e o uso do concreto armado.

PETIT PALAIS
O Petit Palais é um edifício histórico e museu das belas artes situado no 8º Arrondissements de Paris, na avenida Winston Churchill, zona dos Champs Élysées. O edifício foi construído pelo arquitecto Charles Girault para a Exposição Universal de 1900, fazendo parte de um conjunto monumental com o Grand Palais e a Ponte Alexandre III.
Charles Girault concebeu para o Petit Palais uma planta trapezoidal, em estilo eclético, organizada em volta dum jardim semi-circular cercado por um peristilo. Os espaços de exposição situam-se no primeiro andar, sendo o rés-do-chão reservado, originalmente, aos gabinetes e depósitos.
A fachada, ornamentada por uma colunata jónica, tem cerca de 150 metros de comprimento, possuíndo ao centro um grande pórtico monumental coroado por uma cúpula. O interior apresenta galerias iluminadas apenas pela luz natural, com o recurso a grandes superfícies vidradas, cúpulas transparentes e uma série de largas janelas, permitindo uma maior integração do interior com o exterior. A decoração completa-se com numerosos baixos relevos.

GRAND PALAIS
The Grand Palais ("Grand Palace") is a large glass exhibition hall that was built for the Paris Exhibition of 1900. It is located in the VIIIe arrondissement of Paris, France.
Built at the same time as the Petit Palais and the Pont Alexandre III, four architects were involved: the main facade was the work of Henri Deglane, the opposite side the work of Albert-Félix-Théophile Thomas, the interior and the other two ends given to Albert Louvet, with the entire job supervised by Charles Girault. (All four had been winners of the Prix de Rome for architecture.) The building facade is a prototypical example of Beaux-Arts architecture, and the main roof is an expanse of steel and glass.
All of the exterior of this massive palace combines an imposing Classical stone façade with a riot of Art Nouveau ironwork, and a number of allegorical statue groups including work by sculptors Paul Gasq and Alfred Boucher. Two monumental bronze quadrigas by Georges Récipon terminate each wing of the main facade.

PETIT PALAIS
The Petit Palais (Small Palace) is a museum in Paris, France. Built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900 to Charles Girault's designs, it now houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts (musée des beaux-arts de la ville de Paris).
Main entrance gallery of the Petit PalaisArranged around a semi-circular courtyard and garden, the palace is similar to the nearby Grand Palais. Its ionic columns, grand porch and dome echo those of the Invalides across the river. The tympanum depicting the city of Paris surrounded by muses is the work of sculptor Jean Antoine Injalbert.
