Friday Afternoon Lehigh County received a call from a woman reporting a fire in her home on Second Street in Slatington and stated she was on the second floor and could not get out. Well, she never did.
An off-duty sergeant from the Walnutport PD and a civilian tried to rescue her but both were confronted by heavy black smoke when they kicked in the front door.
Firefighters discovered her in a room on the second floor when they stepped on her. She was wrapped in blankets on the floor.
At the time of this writing, it is unknown if she had a working smoke detector. Please check your batteries! Smoke detectors do save lives!

Were you involved in the recent quarry diving death? I remember a few of my friends from Northern Lehigh used to go quarry diving. My dad always warned me that the water can be cold, causing hypothermia, and there are hidden rocks under the water, some of which may kill you on impact.
