This song is about accepting the fact that sometimes you have to be boycotted and blacklisted when you know you're doing the right thing, but society sees it as wrong. The FOP is the fraternal order of police, I think Petersen may be referencing when the FOP of Philadelphia ordered a boycott of all persons and products associated with support of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal in 1981.
