My Gal Sal - Paul and his Gang 1992
Paul Bocciolone Strandberg-cornet, vocal; Dymitr Markiewicz-trombone; Lars-Erik Strom-clarinet; Dennis Johnson-banjo; Frans Sjostrom-bassax.
Malmoe august 1992
Malmoe, Sweden is a southern town of about 350.000 inhabitants and in august every year almost everyone plus many visitors from nearby Copenhagen and other places take part in an enormous cultural festival. And in the middle of it all, in the old town, "Paul and his gang" is stealing the show...
This is one fine performance of Paul and his wonderful Quintet. Dymitr play a great traditionally styled trombone solo and shows his love for Bill Rank, the trombonist of Bix and his Gang's recordings from 1927 .
The fellows are lucky to have found such a talented man like Frans Sjostrom on bass sax. Adrian Rollini, Bix's bass player would have appreciated his performance. I don't think I have heard anybody that good in this style. I believe I'm not the only one because I'm reading that Frans is moving around the world playing his horn everywhere.
This doesn't take anything away from the talent and approach of three remaining musicians. All together a great team!

  • It's good, and the trombone adds a lot to it. You know Poetry Music is returning. Check it out: Eventide Poetry Music Paul Dresser
