your learning, so I aint gonna be harsh, but change your fucking strings! use a softer pick, harder picks on acoustic just sound harsh and the guitar loses that warm brightness in place of an annoying twang, put some elixirs on that guitar, lower your action a little...actually just buy a decent guitar, a few softer picks and a few sets of elixir strings
