Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand (Hindi: धरम देव पिशोरीमल आनन्द; 26 September 1923 -- 4 December 2011), better known as Dev Anand, was an Indian film actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema. Part of the Anand family, he co-founded Navketan Films in 1949, with his elder brother Chetan Anand.

Dev Anand has also been politically active. He led a group of film personalities who stood up against the Internal Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. He actively campaigned against her with his supporters in Indian parliamentary elections in 1977. He also formed a party called the "National Party of India", which he later disbanded.

In September 2007, Dev's own autobiography Romancing with Life was released at a birthday party with the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.[34] In February 2011, his 1961 black and white film Hum Dono was digitised and colourised and released.

Anand was reportedly in London for a medical check up at the time of his death.[43] Condolences poured in from all corners of the Indian film industry, with most of them remembering his positive attitude towards life. Dev Anand's wife and daughter will be leaving for London Tuesday night but the funeral will take place only Dec 9 or 10, his close associate said

This movie is based on the book by R.K.Narayan, India's most known author in the English language. Made in two versions (English with collaboration with Pearl S Buck and directed by Ted Danielewski), the Hindi version of movie was directed by renowned Vijay Anand, the younger brother of Dev Anand. Vijay Anand initially refused twice to direct the movie as he was not convinced with the script but Dev Anand finally convinced him to say yes on the third time and as they say, rest is the history.

On Thursday, the campaign sent an email to supporters from First Lady Michelle Obama in which she stressed that her husband's graying hair was all for them.

"Every day, I see Barack make choices he knows will affect every American family," Mrs. Obama wrote. "That's no small task for anyone -- and more proof that he's earning every last one of those gray hairs."

She asked supporters to sign a birthday card for Mr. Obama and share their experiences. They will be turned into a book about the campaign, and a birthday gift for the president, she said.

Copies will also be delivered to Obama campaign offices, she wrote, ending her email on a note that suggests why the campaign might want to collect these stories now, before the 2012 season really heats up.

"This next year will challenge us all to work harder than ever before," Mrs. Obama wrote.
