http://EnergyTomorrow.org ConocoPhillips recently hosted reporters and bloggers at their Surmont facility in Alberta, Canada. At Surmont, the oil sands are too deep for mining operations, so ConocoPhillips accesses these oil sands using a process called Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD.)

The video says < 0.1% of global GHG and supplies 2% of US oil. I take it she's referring to production of the oil (not including combustion from actually using it). That's also "Alberta's oil sands", and I don't know how broad that is. I doubt that much oil is being produced with this active method at the present moment and the number probably includes a good bit of more easily extracted oil. Just a stab.
I'm in favor of oil sands development, but the numbers seem a little vague.
