PCC streetcar accelerator demonstration showing how in a dimmer like way the motors are brought up to speed. The display is a duplication of components in Kenohsa's ex-Toronto PCC streetcars, with many of the parts for this display having been in CTA 6000 series El cars. Manually controlled in this video, the accelerator is adjusted according to speed, load, operator input, and grade, setting the braking, coasting and accelerating rates in the streetcar.

  • @tramfahrermd Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Many streetcar systems had "displays" like this, and I decided we needed one, makes for great way to show how the "works" works :-)

  • So, "automatic transmission" was invented in the 1930's but St Louis Car Company for their PCC's. Nice.

  • PCC's "drive" a lot like an automatic equipped truck or bus, not the only thing that bus manufacturers learned from PCC development. Thanks for the visit and comment!
