  • great video, I worked at McDonnell Douglas from 89-93 ,, The buildings on the east side of Lake wood Blvd (buildings 80 and 84 are still there, they were built in 1958 specifically for the producion final assy of the DC-8 (also dc-9), All the buildings on the West side of Lakewood Blvd are gone . I live in Long Beach Still

  • The narrator is Ray Walston of My Favorite Martian, a half-hour TV sitcom in the early 60s.

  • does anyone know if a video like this is available for the DC-9? Maybe something from flight testing and design?

  • What the narrator says at 4:33 is actually a joke.

The DC 8 was one of the loudest birds around! Inside, just as outside.

  • This one and the 707 films - pure gold! thanks for putting them up.

  • The narrator, Mr. Dependability, must have left the company by the time they came out with the DC10, unfortunately that model largely ruined Douglas' reputation in the civil aviation business.

  • Where do you find these? Awesome stuff.

  • i like this airliner very much! probably more than 707. thanks for this video!

  • @shparker, that would also include the DC-9 Super 80/MD-80/MD-90.

  • I got to fly a DC-8 trans-Atlantic in 1972, Boston-Munich, non-stop eastbound, I remember seeing dawn over the coast of France, refueling stop westbound at Shannon, great memories!

  • Love the DC-8 :)
