I shan't lie, if the labour party had mentioned compulsory student unionism in their election campaign maybe i WOULD have voted for them. Speaking as a current university student, i think it's a fantastic idea.

P.S. Malcolm Turnball also used to be on the Sydney University Union Board and Tony Abbot as the President of the Sydney University SRC. Sophie: "representatives of their own vested interests and the advancement of their own political careers". Also in student office when Compulsory Student Unionism was being squandered on administrative costs. Awkwardddd.

Most student organisations around Australia supported the SSAF. And thanks for mentioning Sydney University specifically Sophie. In the 2011 University of Sydney Union elections, 10,000 students vote out of a 30,000 undergrad students. This is a huge rise from previous years. When there is voluntary voting for student elections, you must also question the legitimacy of the American system if only 37.8% of voters turned out in the 2010 elections.
