  • @Slemoster It's not "harsh" it's barbaric and civilized societies no longer practice it. It's not about justice but revenge.

The only possible way to argue for the death penalty would be if you had a PERFECT legal system that never makes mistakes or isn't weighted to favour one group or class over another, and no one can even pretend to have that.

So, that's NOT in fact "all there is to it." Real life issues don't fit on a bumper sticker.

  • SARANDON <3 I love you Susan!!!! :D

  • @JaffarAchmed108 They should have access in prison to education & job training so they can earn a decent living when they get out -- poverty and crime go hand in hand. They should also have access to counselling -- crime and abuse (physical, sexual, and drugs) also go hand in hand.

The only sorts of jobs inmates get inside are making license plates and telemarketing. I'd rather public money was spent on things that are proven to give them a way NOT to end up back in prison again upon release.

  • @zammmerjammer people who committed crimes shouldn't be sent to death row, but put to work. If they can't live in the society and do their part for improvement, then they should at least earn their living, even if isolated. I'm not a big fan of the fact that lots of states spend more money on inmates than students. I don't want to feed some murderer from my own pocket, only so that he can live. He should earn his own living even if in prison.

  • looks like a good movie to watch. I might have to rent that on my Apple TV

  • like it

  • I'm watching this in my History Class for this week!

  • mhh... i know this don't fit these serious discussions, but did anyone else found Sean Penn incredibly hot in this movie? I mean besides that rape. Which is clearly unsexy, but you know what i mean, his gazes and movements in the conversations with Helen?

  • @Ramin898989 thank you so much, man. i really appreciate it :D

  • @Ramin898989 You are right there. But this only happens after the execution is done, and not before. Anyway, this debate has been going on for centuries, and it is not possible to solve it on youtube comment section. I believe we need death penalty. However, what is more important is that the criminal justice system has to be fair and flawless. If the system is corrupt, then not only death penalty must be abolished, I would say all sorts of punishments should be abolished.

  • @aliceanne2009 I have to agree with you Anne. It's hard to predict what you would do in such a situation, but if it was somebody close to me who had been killed, I would like to say that I would be brave enough to be able to hear out the killer, if indeed he had something to say at the end of it all in a bid to redeem himself.
