John Woo gives us another taste of sweet historical action this November with his movie Red Cliff.

Based on historical battles in the early days of China's Three Kingdoms war, as a warlord seeks to conquer all of China with the double-knockout combination of the Emperor's blessing and an army measuring one million troops strong. But it won't be a walkover, even with that kind of manpower as other factions stand against the seemingly implacable will of the Emperor. Check out the trailer.

If that doesn't qualify for epic status I don't know what will. And it's also great to see John Woo still in the game. But is this going to be an action movie that no one understands? Or is blood-soaked martial arts action a universal language? Hit the comments section below to tell us what you think, and thanks for watching.

Red Cliff Cast: Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Wei Zhao, Chen Chang, Shido Nakamura, Fengyi Zhang

  • Fantastic film - watching it now!

  • you don't need to know Chinese history to understand it, it was EPIC and I'm not Chinese. I was never into warfare movies nether but was mind blown by how crafty and artistic this was. Oh and hot protagonists!

  • Damnnn epic has hell

  • Da Qiao looks so beautiful here

  • I love John Woo movies and this one is his best! I just saw a great doc that had a few scenes about the great director called “Films of Fury”. It just came out on demand and had some really great movie clips from some of the best Chinese action films ever made! bitly .com/uBGPir

  • @thedukeboxx

Can you tell how battles were fought in order to be realistic? its movie after all, or maybe its better for you to read a book instead.

  • the battle's unrealistic. it must be called a distorted historical action

  • @Praeludien it's the scriptwriter's fault. bear with her.

  • :)) seemingly unbeatable will of the Emperor? Xian was a weak faggot that let his Empire fall to pieces - that's why men like Liu Bei and Cao Cao had to fight - the chaos could not be contained until order was restored by force.

  • I love this movie, the story music, cast everything its GREAT!! and maybe that b!tch is a close mind (:
