In a landscape cloaked in snow and hovering in a bright nothingness, three old men sit fishing on a frozen lake. Escaping their wives and chewing the fat, they wait for a catch that may never come.
Last time I caught one? About 3 years ago laughs Springy. The oldest goat on the pond , he remembers a time when his town was booming. I dont see this town as being empty says Shanny its full of friendships. Interspersed with radio notices of farm closures, this wistful yet upbeat tale cuts through its bleak landscape.

I grew up in Lignite, ND - where "Springy" lived. Lignite is 7 miles east of Columbus. Columbus is 7 miles south of the Canadian border. The theater in Columbus ran its last years when I was in high school in the 80s. Burke and Divide Counties had the largest percentage population decrease in the US from the 80 to 90 census. Great place to be from. Great people. The power plant closed in the 50's or 60's. The radio station voice over is all BS.
