A quick proof of concept I created in a few hours to show that media center type applications are perfectly possible on a Wii. This webapplication needs to be installed on a webserver and allows the user to convert their videos to Flash 7 compatible Flash Video. Under the hood there's FFMPEG doing the encoding and PHP/HTML for the user interface and application logic. There's still a lot of work to do, like adding support for job control (the encoding goes on in the background), making the whole thing less ugly and eventually support for mp3's and pictures. I know there's already a project like this called Wii Media Center but since it only allows you to watch FLV's which you've encoded before, it's pretty useless to me. The screencast is done in Opera on a Mac because I'm away from my Wii at the moment, but I'll upload a camshot from the Wii running once I get back to it next week.
