Mix sampler of Jono McCleery's double A-side single 'Wonderful Life' & 'Garden', out 27th June on Counter Records/Ninja Tune. Buy from iTunes: http://bit.ly/mzCN8k
'Wonderful Life' is a beautiful, stately cover of the 80s Black classic. At the hands of McCleery and his producer Fybe, the whole tune is stretched out into an aching lament which ends up not a million miles from the work of James Blake, a tune where the space between notes is as important as the notes themselves.
'Garden' sees McCleery back on his own material, a driving, emotional song which shows once again that McCleery is so much more than just someone with a great voice. The remix comes from the one and only Seiji.
Jono McCleery completed his first album, 'Darkest Light' (http://itun.es/igf8fP) in 2008. The record was self-produced and funded by fans, including folk-star Vashti Bunyan and BBC radio DJs Tom Robinson and Fiona Talkington. Jono has toured with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Bonobo, Fink, Jose Gonzales, Little Dragon and Portico Quartet and cites his main influences as John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Bill Withers, Jeff Buckley and John Martyn. His new album 'There Is' is scheduled to be released 5th September.
Jono is supporting Jamie Woon on his upcoming tour:
Sun 29 May 2011: Manchester - Academy 2
Mon 30 May: Leeds - Met Uni
Tue 31 May: Sheffield - Leadmill
Thu 2 Jun: Bournemouth - Old Fire Station
