The BBC follows a volunteer as she tries to save gorillas, orangutans and other apes from being hunted for bush meat. Rachel has come to Africa to help hand rear gorilla orphans. Although it might seem proactive, Cameroon locals are frustrated by the level of care, money and attention a baby gorillas receive versus food supplies and housing care for the local community. Watch this clip from BBC documentary Ape Hunters to see both sides of the story of animal conservation centres in Africa. From the BBC.

  • some people here say that its better to help the humans there and and not give shit about the apes. well humans are smart enough to take care of themselves, at lest thy should be. but apes can't when humans are eating them. and don't tell me they are hungry. they don't eat gorilla when they are hungry. gorilla is a delicacy. they only hunt it to get money. try livestock for once stupid people. and i can tell you that 99,99999% of aid given is humans aid. plus, apes risks to go extinct

  • No, they're ALL beautiful and all have beautiful qualities.

  • eating gorilla is cannibalism

  • i saw no orangatans

  • Here's an idea. Breed some chickens! why not go a little wild and maybe some goats too, those things eat anything.

  • it would be canabalism here.

  • Applause for catching my attempt at thoughtful humor. Whining and wailing won't help the situation. Viewers/listeners are numb to it. So, I try a different approach by taking the topic to the very estreme edges of insanity. Perhaps the reader will gain some insight that might otherwise go missing.

  • i find eating something that pretty much look like a human distasteful. i think that farming animals that have a bigger brain then an whale nut is wrong. even tho i know you weren't serious about farming chimps.

but those that eat gorillas might just as well eat human flesh. its probably easier to get hands on and taste the same.

in some places in africa its social accepted to eat gorillas and that's where the problem lie, rather then on the hunters

  • This is only snippet of what goes on. The BBC should post footage on the communities that have received support and in turn replenish forests and wildlife.

  • Joe: My point exactly. Nobody bothers to look at the skinny, half-starved Human children in the videos' backgrounds. Local people cannot help their country's wildlife until The World shows compassion toward them. It must be so confusing to kids, but one kind act will be followed by another: "I am worth less than a chimpanzee?"
