  • I think your gas gauge was moving faster than the speedometer.

  • Gas gauge moved because the gasoline in the tank is pushed away from the float cylinder that gauges the amount of gasoline. He was either driving uphill or downhill, but definitely a different grade in comparison to when he started.

    That or he's leaking gasoline. But that's unlikely because the car would detect depressurization in the tank and light up his dash like a christmas tree.
