Fun and frolic are words that described the atmosphere at this location of wonderment, an early amusement park that was started in 1925 on the lake front in Canandaigua, New York. For sixty years this modest lakeside enterprise catered to the tastes of middle class Americans. Its early offerings included a dance hall and a few rides. As the years passed, free circus style attractions were added. By the time it ceased operations in 1985, this regional attraction offered miniature golf, boat rides, bingo, a tram and numerous amusement rides including bumper cars and a wooden roller coaster. Young and old alike flocked to Canandaigua each summer to enjoy Roseland Park. When I lived in nearby Rochester, I often visited Roseland as I loved the wooden roller coaster. Shot with a Bolex 16mm camera, here is a group of us enjoying the day at Roseland. I remember it as a fun place to be and was sorry to hear that it closed.
NOTE: I need to go back to my original 16mm film & recopy this. Somewhere down the line, the file was downsized too much & this video has too many artifacts.
