A tribute to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina done to the song My City of Ruins by Bruce Springsteen.

Lyrics:
Theres a blood red circle
On the cold dark ground
And the rain is falling down
The church doors blown open
I can hear the organs song
But the congregations gone

My city of ruins
My city of ruins

Now the sweet veils of mercy
Drift through the evening trees
Young men on the corner
Like scattered leaves
The boarded up windows
The hustlers and thieves
While my brothers down on his knees

My city of ruins
My city of ruins

Come on rise up!
Come on rise up!

Now theres tears on the pillow
Darling where we slept
And you took my heart when you left
Without your sweet kiss
My soul is lost, my friend
Now tell me how do I begin again?

My city's in ruins
My city's in ruins

Now with these hands
I pray lord
With these hands
For the strength lord
With these hands
For the faith lord
With these hands
I pray lord
With these hands
For the strength lord
With these hands
For the faith lord
With these hands

Come on rise up!
Come on rise up!
Rise up

  • im from the U.K and visited New Orleans in 2007. I was disgusted to see how little George Bush has done to help rebuild the place. It was heartbreaking to see the empty houses boarded up schools and other buildings. had a fantastic time there as the people have such great spirit. god bless them

  • I went though katrina.

    My parents died

    i wont get over it

  • I am a surviver of hurricane andrew. lost family friends, but we must never forget the ppl of new orleans, their spirit and that they still need our help. youtube.com/grammygold2011/fat tuesday

  • i went there in 2008 and it was still pretty bad... the city was really in Ruins .. very sad.

  • @iangarner18 Blame Nagin and corrupt LA (New Orleans in particular) politics...Bush can only do so much, per the rules of the constitution.

  • Is rebuilding such a good idea, what with all the rising sea levels and what not? People need to be offered a safer place to live. Man's works can only do so much against the power of nature, isn't the writing on the wall?

  • masterfully done. thanks.

  • WHAT WILL ALL OF THE CLEBES DO ABOUT THE OIL SPILL/? NO one seems to be paying attention! what"s up! we really need the help right now!

  • I too am from New Orleansand I regretfully must agree with LBAX1400. It's not just crime but generations of politicians who feed on this negativity. New Orleans is a very racially divided city but it's subtle, underground, just scratch the surface. This is just my oinion.

  • There will be pain, disaster and suffering, always, but is how we respond to it that matters. It's all that has ever mattered.

May we never see such indifference ever again.

  • You did a wonderful job here.

  • i lived in New Orleans all my life. I spent the first 14 days after Katrina in the city doing rescue in boats, not knowing where my father and children were. I will NEVER forget Katrina. The images here are only miniscule in comparison to what I witnessed...I shall NEVER forget
