  • The decline of Wallasey and New Brighton saddens me greatly. It's quite clear that WBC don't care about the areas at all, a complete change from when I was growing up in Wallasey Village. New Brighton was relatively bustling up until the late 80's, or possibly even the early '90s. I'm sure the WBC spends more on "non-jobs" now than it did then, do the maths and ask yourself why there's been a decline.

  • Bloody crap the end bit of this video is. Ive lived in New Brighton the past 40 years and Ive watched the place turn into a total ghost town. Businesses couldnt wait to burn their places down for the insurance money, and bugger off forever. And Wirral Borough Council did bugger all to stop them then, and couldnt give a shit about New Brighton. They were too busy saving the Council Tax money for their own Pensions and expenses. Ive watched for 40 years now how they helped destroy everything

  • my uncle frank cavanagh think thats how its spelt , was a captain for 40 yrs on the ferrys, i spent many hours on the bridge with him, ha the joke shop ,whent there heaps, plastic dog poo and stink bombs our fav . thanks .

  • We used to call the Royal Iris The Fish and Chip boat happy memories.

  • Great film narrated by Monty Lister. Unfortunately at 44 im too young & wasnt around to see New Brighton before it went rapidly downhill. Having lived on the Wirral all my life I find it tragic to see whats become of it since whereas Blackpool & Southport are still thriving. Thanks for the film though & ill definately be watching your other Wirral memories.

  • thanks for very happy memories i worked in NB in the late 60s and lived close enough to the tower that my windows cracked with the heat from the fire

  • I grew up in NB and remember how busy and lively it was.

You can re-create the past as you would never have so many holiday makers staying today.

But the council does need to have vision to regenerate the resort for the 21st Century. Not just piecemeal bits of development and a supermarket.

  • hi there!
