About a year ago, I heard Chris Potter's solo on this tune and was completely blown away. The fact that he can just casually pick a tune and produce something like this on the spot is a demonstration of his genius and mastery of the horn and the music.

I spent about 6 months learning it piece by piece by slowing it down into manageable segments, then putting them together. This was a great exercise, not only for the extremely high technical level of his recording, but it also helped open up my thinking about improvisation in general. I especially like the way he shifts the meter around while staying within the context of the tune.

Thank you Chris for the joy and inspiration you bring to your listeners.

  • Good job bro, I'm doing the same thing...so much to learn from this. Did you learn it by ear...or did you have the transcription that is available?

  • @buttheadgsxr1000 Thanks for listening. I learned the solo by ear piece by piece using the Amazing Slow Downer, then put it all together. Best luck,
