Chris Potter's 'All The Things You Are' Solo

About a year ago, I heard Chris Potter's solo on this tune and was completely blown away. The fact that he can just casually pick a tune and produce something like this on the spot is a demonstration of his genius and mastery of the horn and the music.

I spent about 6 months learning it piece by piece by slowing it down into manageable segments, then putting them together. This was a great exercise, not only for the extremely high technical level of his recording, but it also helped open up my thinking about improvisation in general. I especially like the way he shifts the meter around while staying within the context of the tune.

you absolutely own this. i've transcribed a couple choruses but damn man, you did the whole thing note for note and then played it like a mother fucker. i wasn't even planning on going on to the crazy stuff he plays later. you inspire me and make me wanna quit and just go watch futurama at the same time, the exact feeling i got from Chris's recording. great job. your altissimo is killin also
