Hi , I'm Lisa , and I'll show you how to create maps with MaptheWay.com.
We'll create a map, and for this, we've chosen two spots, which, in this case, are cities.
This is the website address.
I click on "Create your Own Map"
I come to a window where I create spots which will appear in my map.
I add a spot, for example New York ... USA ...New York city
-----------------------------Result in the map
I go to see the result, on the map
The marker shows NY
this is a generic marker
and in the window above there's guidance to create a specific type of marker.
The message "Type empty for spot New York" advises you to see the "Spot Graphics" tab in the list of spots.
So l come back to the list
--------------------------Define a Type
I click the graphics tab.
There are 3 tabs, location, description and graphics
I go to the Type field, a button appears, with a list of marker types.
I see a variety of markers, it could be a city, or many other types, like Landscape, Airport, Hotel, etc... I choose City which is the category of that spot in my map.
If I come back to the map, I can see that the marker graphic has been updated and that the warning has disappeared.
-------------------------Address and Relocation
Returning to the list of spots, I see that MaptheWay has generated the latitude and longitude, based on the address I added : USA , New York City
It's possible that the location chosen by Google based on the address is not 100% accurate so maybe I need to relocate the spot, a few blocks away.
I can do that by dragging and dropping the marker. When I come back to the list of spots I see that the latitude and longitude have been updated.
------------- Overview of the tabs and Description field
We have 3 tabs to define the spots; Location, where we filled in the address and where the latitude and longitude appear.
The Graphics tab, where we have defined the category of a spot, other fields fields we'll look at later
and a Description tab where, by default, the tool has filled in the address.
We can, of course, change the description,
For example; New York is one of the most famous cities in the world.
If we go to the map and click on the marker, the description appears.
------------------------------Website link
We can add to the description and create a link to a webpage, in your website or on another one.
For our example, lets make a link to a Webpage about New York.
For this we can use Wikipedia.
Here is Wikipedia's page about New York city,
I copy the address, and paste it in the webpage field.
If I go to the map, open the marker box, I see a Link
and if the visitor clicks on it he will be routed to New York city page in Wikipedia.
-------------------------------Link behaviour
It's possible to define how the navigation link works.
Writing "Yes" in this field, instructs the map to open a new window, for example if you want to make a link to an external website it's better to keep your current page with the map still available, and open a new window for the new webpage.
On the other hand if you are navigating inside your own website it is maybe preferable to replace the curent page with the new page you want to navigate to. In this case you write "No".
The next video is about adding graphics to your map.
