How do you know the Rover even has HDC enabled? Perhaps the G4's were a test of driver ability not technology...

The "dumb" driver is a UK rally champion- he will use the most effective techniques off road. HDC was entirely unneccessary- wheels had good grip, and better control is often given by cadence braking in these situations- its much nicer to drive at 1.mph with a wheel lifted than at 4mph.
Oh and you mean brake not break.
