In this Youtube video sermon, we hear Paul Washer teaching salvation by works. He says, "If you're lost -- if you know not Christ ... What should you do? Throw yourself upon Christ. Throw yourself upon Christ. Throw yourself upon Christ. Call on the name of the Lord and you will not be disappointed. Cry out, "Save me, O God. Save me." "When and where shall I do this, preacher?" Do it now. Do it where you're seated because you might not even live past another step or a breath. Do it now. Do it now." (Sermon, "True Gospel Part 2 -- What is the Gospel", June-28-2007. Quote begins at 1hr 24min 50sec)

"Do, do, do" are clearly Washer's favorite words. Mixing grace and works are his expertise. Perhaps Washer should become a Roman Catholic priest (I hear there's a shortage in America of them at the moment). Certainly, he can't be a preacher of the Apostolic Gospel. Here's the Gospel that the apostles preached...

1 Corinthians 1
18 For the WORD OF THE CROSS is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, IT IS THE POWER OF GOD.
24 but to the called out ones, both to Jews and to Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;
(Taken from JP Green's Literal Translation.)

The Apostle Paul says that men are brought to life through the gospel -- not through their own striving, straining or doing. Now, why does Paul Washer demean and trash the truth as a useless thing? Why must we do something ON TOP of the truth to know we are justified? Is the truth of the gospel some common, useless thing that anyone can possess? Washer says so. He says...

"If you're lost -- if you know not Christ -- you've heard a madman, you think. Then listen to the words of the madman. You know what I've said about you is true. We don't even have to argue that point. You know. Now, you might hate it -- that I don't know about your heart. But you know it's true. As a matter of fact, you know enough about its truth to know you hate it. You're not blind, except that you close your own eyes. What should you do?" (Sermon, "True Gospel Part 2 -- What is the Gospel", June-28-2007. Quote begins at 1hr 24min 50sec)

Wow. So, apparently unbelievers already believe the gospel! They already "know it's true". And therefore the truth must be a common, redundant thing, according to Washer (people can go to the hell, with it in them!). Washer needs something ON TOP of the truth to give him confidence, peace and assurance with God. And to help his fellow "seekers" out, Washer raises the following question "What should YOU DO [to be saved]?". In other words, Washer's forced to imply, (to paraphrase him) "Well, since you unbelievers already possess the truth, What should you do, on top of the truth to gain confidence, peace and assurance before God?"

  • I think a lot of people have it backwards-works are simply the evidence of faith , not the cause of it . Salvation is the end result of repentance . Once one has been saved their life is a matter of growth in the Spirit designed to effect greater rapport with God through daily contact , not a continuos series of readjustments neededto maintain ones status in the Lord . Thank the Lord that there are sensible Christians who see through people like Paul Washer and his ilk .

  • If you really know the Word of God, you will know that Paul Washer is a "salvation by works" based teacher. If you really don't know the Word of God, you will be easily deceived by his false teachings concerning salvation. It's as simple as that...

  • if you cant see through Paul Washers sermons that he is telling the truth, then you are blindedby satan because of your want to confrorm to the world. Trust God. Plus, faith without works is dead right? If i say that i am hungry,and you have food but ONLY pray that im filled is dead faith. And at the same time, works are not required in salvation. To be saved, you only have to repent and believe the gospel..but the evidence you TRULY did that is sanctification, changed heart, discipline, etc.

  • Well this is an easy way to tell the difference between the goats from the sheep. Its obvious that Paul is not teaching salvation by works, but he is teaching salvation by faith and faith alone, which is followed by works. Dear friend, you dont know what "works"are if you are convicting him of it. There are 2 kinds of works, 613 jewishlaw following "works" (avoiding pork, 2/3 walk on sabbath), and christian living "works" (loving and serving the bretheren, praying, sanctification...etc.)

  • My friend you take what washer says way out of context, when jesus shows us that where sinners we beg for mercy and forgiveness. When I seen I was a sinner heading for hell I went to a prayer room at a church cried out to god and he saved me. A simple prayer won't save a man. A man who truly sees he's a sinner will beg for forgiveness. Paul washer is not taking about a formula to salvation he's saying cried out to god. Bible says to seek him while he may be found.

  • i'm from romania and i understand paul washer better than u??thank God ........i'm saved!...u are taking the easy way...the way to hell!

  • not here not anywhere..your video is a complete..Paul knows well and says often (WITHOUT) ambiguity tjat any who will get to heaven will be based on the worth and merit of ONE alone....that is JESUS CHRIST..your video may have been valid..if youtube and any other site that feature my brother in CHRIST..dint have him repeating over and over again what i habe jist stated. try again:( its terrible to see you fail this way.
