17th Century Gun Money James II 1690 Half-Crown May Irish Coin

Gunmoney was an issue of coins minted in Ireland during the Williamite war between William III and James II.

James was short of the silver needed to mint money to pay his troops, and to pay for supplies. He addressed this by issuing a token coinage made from obsolete cannon and other metallic scrap, to be redeemable later in silver.

  • great video

  • @caleb121693 Thank you :)

  • worth much?

  • @birdman404 I've seen one on eBay priced at £200 in really nice condition. The one that I've got has really great detail but is by no means mint. I've seen a couple in really rough condition go for about £20-£30. They are very collectable because of the history that goes with them.
