@kmdpiano25 Wow you studied with Rubsam? I feel as though the recordings I have heard of him are the kind of style that my teacher has been trying to get out of me. I mean, I totally understand the style came about after the Baroque era, but I think Bach would have adapted his playing along with the tastes of time if he had lived on through it. I still would give anything for the technique displayed here. Kudos!

maybe a bit fast, but this concert hall seems to have a f$#%ing dry acoustics, making the speed bearable in my opinion. i wouldnt want to compare this performance to a chuch recording. wish i could play it that clear...

WAY WAY TOO FAST! In Bach's music, you should be able to hear the counterpoint and give the audience time to enjoy the music. This piece has so many different moments in it that are beautiful, and playing that fast takes away from having those moments of beauty.

Too clipped articulation ! This detracts from the music . Also, I felt it was tag too fast !

very good technically but at this speed it sounds more like a gigue or concerto. I've always thought of the piece as ponderous, momentous, steadily approaching the light. Again, very good technique.

Very well played technically. I have never heard anyone play this P&F this fast. When I play this Prelude, I play it much slower. My former organ Prof. Wolfgang Rubsam played it quickly in his early recordings, but now plays it with more drama and musicality, the way I prefer it.
If this goes too slowly, the piece can be a drag. There is a lot of freedom in this piece. I don't think an ensamble would play it as slowly as many organists do. The arrival points are clear in this piece and one can really hear the tension and release quite clearly when done a little faster. Because there are many scales in this work, one can also hear the rise and fall which creates drama! Keep in mind the stylus fantasticus as well. I like to think of 542 (fantasy) when playing this.
