This is an effect I built for the Throne room level of our team game project, Primae Noctis. Initially we were using spotlights external to the structural BSP of the room and the windows were set not to cast shadows - using the light functions, I was able to make a much more convincing light through the windows effect. We didn't have time to build in light rays, which would've completed the effect, as well as setting the windows' mesh material's brightness to reflect the lightning, but that's student game development I suppose.
