LeConte Lodge, atop Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is accesible only by hiking one of five trails. During its open season, fresh supplies are brought up the mountain by llamas. Once a year, a helicopter airlift brings in most non-perishable supplies. This year's airlift took place Monday, March 17, 2008. This video is of a hike up the Alum Cave Bluff trail to watch the airlift.
I was copilot on two of these airlifts in 2000. What a fun job that was. We took a skid loader and building materials in on the first one and what must have been thousands of dollars worth of candy bars. On the second airlift we removed the skid loader and brought in more candy bars. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful video. Thanks for posting. I made the trek up the Alum Cave Bluffs trail to overnight at the lodge back in '91 and this brings back fond memories.

Very cool video. I've hiked Leconte twice and can't wait for #3. We hiked Trillium and Rainbow Falls. It's so hard to describe this place to those who haven't or can't hike it, and these great videos help a lt..Thanks
