  • I liked very much this version... here in my country they say... when the class isnt water :)

can I ask something about the source of this video... is it an official release or what ?

  • @ontherun8

The dvd is "Steve Hackett and friends / Live in Japan". That was a release from Hong Kong. However, there's also the dvd entitled "The Tokyo tapes" which I haven't watched specifically, but I guess it's the same program. That dvd is available in the US and UK.

  • Love it! Never seen this one. I like Wetton on vox...very masculine. Was this Hackett's band; and is that Chester Thomson on the skins? That long, sorrowful solo is one of my favs of Mr. Hackett. Thanks for posting!

  • Yes, that is Chester on drums. This is a special band that Hackett formed for a japanese tour. And you are right: that is a SORROWFUL middle. It caught my attention since the first time I heard it, and everytime I hear it takes me back to 92-93, the first years in which I discovered the original song by Genesis.

    Thank you, shovelman !

  • Cardenco:

Selling England by the Pound album is from 1973, not 1974...

Great performance... I like Wetton's singing style, but I think it doesn't work in this Longlife Peter Gabriel's masterpiece (even if it was written by Mr. Rutherford)... Nice mid improvisation, King Crimson's style (John Wetton and Ian McDonald... coincidence?).

Firth of Fifth's solo always strikes, and even more if it is played by the master Steve Hackett...

    Greets.

  • Damn this is good.. A little slower than I like or am used to but allot is there.. Hackett and Chester from 1977 W& W tour, a flute only Gabriel played from Selling tour and a cool "Yes" sound to back it up.. I'm very Nostalgic.. Awesome rendition!!

  • @kkkolor Just a minor correction: Firth of Fifth isn't written by Rutherford, but mainly by Banks. The lyrics have some Rutherford contributions, and the solo is obviously 'written' by Hackett. Who, by the way, is by far the most underrated guitarist ever...

  • great song, great performance, great sound... and i love that Sole and the final from 7:56

  • BEST SONG EVER !!!!!!! BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER !!!!!! AMAZING

  • For the the lead vocalist throws a monkey wrench into the entire works.

  • このバンドのドラマーは私の永遠のアイドルBill Brufordでしょう。

    世界最強のバンドになれたのに。 実現して欲しかったなぁ。

    さあ、ドラム叩くぞ。 Easy Money!

  • Whetton is the greatest rock bass player who has made the limelight. Listen to what he's doing. And he has a good set of pipes. In my opinion he was part of the best Crimson lineup. I saw those guys in Milwaukee. Also saw Whetton w Roxy Music a year or two later. There are not many people who can play a bass like that. Stunning. This video is absolutely beautiful.

  • @cardenco

Chester on drums, John Wetton is the singer and bassist, ex KING CRIMSON! Not good like Peter but he's good. Ian McDonald, flauto, ex King Crimson too.

  • Once again where John Wetton is talent as well! Hey it's my name sake here.

  • Wetton is an outstanding addition to this mix,
