It's not based on the regions religion it's based on the characters piety. However I don't think princess have any piety so it sounds like a lose lose for you.
I really hate the pope in this game
your generals can be executed in a second without any reason
i went so mad so i stop careing about my faction and the other cities and assembled all of my forces from any city and went to rome and killed the pope.
But then he just keep respawning outside rome, so evrytime he spawn i go out there and kills him.
it gets kind of boring after a while.
So i started a new campaign

@vikkce the CA tries to illustrate how corrupt the Church could be during the Medieval ages. I mean, some popes during the MIddle Ages were good, but many were corrupt and lust for power. I have also read an article about how the local priests could take advantage over the citizens' lack of undertanding the Bible. Fortunality, things have changed. :)
