  • @sixtiespopgold did the vid of Herman's Hermits playing "there's a kind of hush" get removed? I can't play it any longer on my mobile.

  • @Meowrose3 Hmm, that's strange but it seems that you're right. Try one of my other channels, 60popvideos, though.

  • The point was who wrote the song, not who performed it first. The song was written by Ray as a poke at his brother Dave's partying lifestyle at the time. The song can be found on the Kinks' 1966 release, "Face to Face." I can see why Ray gave it to the Hermits to use. It's more in line with the type of catchy, teenage fluff, that Peter Noone and co. were likley to record and perform.

  • @Itravel701 You don't have to worry, I consider Ray Davies to be the best songwriter during the 60s together with John Lennon, and of course I'm an owner of all Kinks albums from that period. I was just pointing out the fact that it was first released by Herman's Hermits.

  • This is a cover of a Kinks song originally written by Ray Davies.

  • @Itravel701 But I checked the release dates. The Kinks' version was released on October 28, 1966, while Herman's Hermits' version entered the Billboard singles chart on October 1, 1966.

  • One of my favourite songs from '66. Thanks for posting. :)

  • Watching this makes me think of charlieissocoollike

  • @KitchensLady...The Mods and their obsession with fashion and how it defined them. The true Modernists of that time were all about being the first one to have a exclusive shirt, a pair of shoes, a haircut etc. Or, if you could start an exclusive trend or fad, before the others and were first to show it on the street or dancehall you were hip.The boys dressed for each other, not for girls. It was all about one upmanship and posing. It was the teeny boppers who rode scooters and wore army parkas.

  • @Itravel701 Who was he talking about in "Dedicated Follower of Fashion?" ;P

  • @SixtiesPopGold This song was written by Ray Davies, published by Davray/Carlin Music Corp., recorded sometime in May or June of 1966 at Pye Studios in London by the Kinks. Finally, it was released on their album Face To Face on the 28th of October 1966, which is why the dates are misleading as to who wrote it. It was Ray!

  • Damn advertisements... I hate them...

  • @Itravel701 i agree, this is a ray davies song.

  • We have to remember that he was only 17 or 18 at this point. Real stage presence - but he'd been a child actor in England before this. What a love he was.
