Second year show hand washing happiness med student

Dear All,

This is a brief explanation of the two second year show clips, a little something on hand washing and being happy (this sounds common sensical, but i learned that a lot of people, including myself, have been washing our hands in the wrong way, and i thought because it's flu season, it may be helpful if we started washing our hands in the right way). The last bit on happiness is something we learned in psychiatry, which again sounds like common sense, but something that i didn't really think of before, so hopefully you'll find it somewhat helpful.

This video is misleading. He didn't show the handwashing at all. It's a waste of time. He should rename the title. A totally condufed chap,sorry to say it.

I'm a little OCD, but I like to wash my hands for a couple of minutes every once in a while.

I wash my hands throughout the day. Kind of a lot.

alchol is a powerful solvent. as it slips thru the lipid bilayer of a cell via pores, it denatures proteins, which is needed by the cell.

to answer someone else's question, we don't want to use alcohol all the time because, just like EtOH denaturing bacterial proteins, it can denature ours as well. however, our integumentary system protects us fairly well from inconsistent washing with EtOH. but that's why we don't do it all the time.

One thing I don't understand is the distribution of triclosan. It takes 2 hours to kill bacteria! They didn't see this in the lab?

And why even use soap, why couldn't we make an alcohol based liquid that kids all bacteria instantly with an almost zero change of antibacterial resistance?
