@str8outtatexas1You also do yourself a disservice - if you close yourself off to specific genre's or era's of music then you ultimately just deprive yourself of the opportunity of hearing that next life affirming song. I know, for an absolute certainty, that I would never want to do that.
-
@str8outtatexas1 I even said in my first comment that 95% of music back in the day was bullshit and it was only the good stuff that welisten to today that survived - that's why everyone thinks music was the best back then. Today the ratio (for me) is the same - 95% of music out there today is bullshit. My point was there is still some interesting, innovative stuff being made and that completely disregarding it is does music and the select few talented artists a disservice.
-
@6billiondeaths Where do you want me to start? NO SUBSTANCE,NO CREATIVITY,NO CRITICAL THINKING, ONE-DIMENSIONAL MATERIAL ect. I listen to some of today's music, but 85% of it is repetitive garbage. Man theres people in their 20's & 30's of all colors have said the same shit about today's music. Answer this question, what happened to R&B,Hip-hop, & funk GROUPS? These fucking music executives promotes what sells, bitches, image, cars, money
,guns, drugs, bling, drink ect. NOTHING POSITIVE! Prove me wrong. -
@rupertreddle My original point said nothing about music now being better than music back then. I love music and listen to all sorts, contemporary, modern, black white, whatever label you wish to give. I don't like the whiny, middle aged shite of "music these days" and "when I were a lad.." etc etc. Music changes, you don't have to like it but to completely write it off is so ignorant and for me, totally against the spirit of what music is supposed to represent.
-
@rupertreddle I take issue with the assumption that there is no good music out there now, that the only good music is that from the past. It's bullshit. Music changes and evolves all the time and just because somebody doesn't make music that sounds exactly like Curtis Mayfield in 2012 does not mean their music loses all credibility.
-
@rupertreddle That's a matter of opinion and nothing more. I could name 5 songs and undoubtedly you would name me 5 others which are better. The reason why older songs seem better (and I also have this feeling about many songs) is because we were brought up on them, because they're still as relevant now as they were 30-40 years ago and because music changes. There can only be one Stevie Wonder, one Marvin Gaye, one Curtis Mayfield.
-
@6billiondeaths black music is no where near as good today as it was in the 70,s and 80,s. who are you trying to fool? name 5 good songs in the last 10 years and i will name 5 better ones from the 70,s and 80,s...

@str8outtatexas1 Just saying 'you don't know what the fuck you're talking about' an then not backing up what you say with any evidence what so ever is piss weak. I never slated "real" R 'n' B or denied that it has changed (some would say for the worse). My point was that your a miserable cunt living in the past, there was good music 'back then' - there is good music now, to write off an entire decades/generations worth of music shows how fucking knowledgeable you are.

@6billiondeaths -You don't know what the fuck YOU'RE talking about. As soon as you mentioned elvis I knew right then that I was dealing with an Non knowledgeable pussy. Keep your young, less than knowledgeable ass off of curtis mayfield video's trying to school or tell me about music from the past. I think you typed in the wrong video. You're done before you even started. With that comment, I along with others know you don't know shit about the decline or destruction of true R&B.
i'm only 44, but this is what my parents bought me up on.i remember my dad had the album too the movie ''SUPERFLY''.he would play that record everyday.mr.mayfield has one of the greatest voices in music period.why is it so hard too find greats like this today?today's music (2000's) ''except for a few'' all sounds alike, same shitty beats, and can't sing worth shit.auto-tune has destroyed music.it's all about bitches, cars, money, bling, drank & promoting ignorance & stupidity. the 60's-90's 4ever.

Curtis Mayfield loved his woman and his people with all his heart and soul. This song set the standard for successful relationships around the world. I only wish radio stations would paly more of his music and other artist that challanged us to be the best we can be. There is such respect for women in this song.
Thank you Southerngirl675 for posting this song.
