for us, italians, is a big sense of bein' proud of those men, like Visconti, Fellini, Monicelli, Dino Risi. De Sica, Rossellini, and is grotesque to watch out how down we went after this Generation of Giants....now we have less than shadows of what we had before, during our Golden-Age, now nothing has survived...italian-cinema now is nothing, less than zero...

OTRO DE LOS SEMIDIOSES DEL TEATRO, DEL CINE, DE LA OPERA!
-
note his French accent in Italian.

can't believe there were critics saying that Visconti turned Death in Venice into a story about homosexuality... its totally not the impression that I had when I first saw it at age 10 and when I see it now. the whole movie is about unachievable beauty/perfection.

I second both GordonMorrice and oriola26. It makes me feel not so alone in today's world of tinsel and money making Hollywood shallowness.

ma stai delirando..?anche se fosse ha fatto dei film che sono troppo al di sopra della tua capacità di comprensione (sempre che tu li abbia visti ma ne dubito...)
The will towards creating serious, powerful and beautiful art never dies. It emerged 70,000 years ago in flame-illuminated caves and never abated. Where we have went wrong is turning art into commerce and falling into nihilism and forgetting what the great anceint civilisations discovered about the connexion between the natural world and the minds we experience everything with. For the Greeks, technology and art were bound up together. Our age see art as silly and technology as God.
