This is a protype i made in 10 mins for the head on my camera crane. I had planned on speinding a lot on a long aluminium bar to keep the head a constant angle but I thought it would be easier cheaper and simpler to use a cable. The top of the head has a bungee cord on it to pull the cable taught. When the crane goes up, the cable pulls gently against the bungee, keeping the head a a constant angle. When the crane is lowered, the cable pays out, and the bungee keeps it steady. This also makes the angle easier to adjust, with a turn buckle or similar and you can yank the cable to change the angle in the air. This seems to be a very cheap quick and easy way of doing this. It is also lighter and smaller to transport and sets up in afew seconds. I intend to remake this out of 2inch wide aluminium strip.

  • Not easier to put the wire on the top and let the camera weight pull the cable tight?

  • @n506 - no the camera swings all over the place. This is the best system I Found...

  • Probably would have to have the camera level with the pivot point otherwise you don't have enough leverage against the movement of the camera. If your method works well though, that's cool. Most commercial cranes have the cable/bar on top, probably as much as anything to reduce costs of engineering.

  • thats an long one
