This is a portion of my level for the SMWC vanilla level design contest held in February 2009. It takes the third of the seven exits in the level, and one of the only three that can be reached on the very first time entering the level. This level tied for 3rd in the contest, getting perfect scores from one of the judges.

  • I am just starting to get used to Lunar Magic (whatever call me a noob if you like) and I am working with Layer 2. I can't figure out how to:

    A. get the second platform color (ex. the falling platforms in this level)

    B. Platforms to move up and down, such as the yellow ones underground on the original.

    Would you mind giving me a hand? I have tried many things, even immitating other levels that do that very thing. I can't find a tutorial of it anywhere also.

    The platform color thing was apparently hardcoded into the game with how several level sections work. I believe its automatic for cave levels that are using the layer two setup stuff. When I wanted to have that, I used one of those levels as a starting point, basically removing pretty much everything from it and re-working the level over where it originally was.

    Additionally, the layer stuff requires you to have the right header properties (mario head icon). 02 for "SNES Registers and level mode" gets you a usable layer 2. You also need the proper layer 2 modifier sprite wherever Mario enters the level to make it work properly throughout the level. If you look at the default levels that come with a blank rom, you'll see how nintendo used these to trigger different layer 2 effects in their stages, and you can use the same setups.

  • Its placed on a layer 2 falls platform. Once the platform starts moving down, its no longer "in place" and starts moving to the right. Its the same basic thing if you hit a block with a mushroom sitting on top of it from below, the mushroom starts moving right as soon as it registers that it's airborne.

  • @x1372 lol. I got that now lol. I tried the sink command, and it didn't quite work (it would raise around 3 tiles the suddenly plumment)
