  • @gophop I'd say it shares the same chasis as the A8, but you're probably right about Bentley components.

  • Probably been brought up before, but Phaeton shares the same platform as a Bentley, and a lot of other parts.

  • @FallasDeOrigen1 Yes, and therein lies my point. Perhaps Germans know that VW owns Audi but here in America 9 out of 10 people don't know that. To them,. Audi is a completely separate entity, as would be the Phaeton had it not been branded with a big VW on the grill. I've only seen half a dozen Phaetons on the road here in the states and have never ridden in one but I've read that it is a fabulous car that actually surpasses anything made by Audi, BMW or Mercedes in terms of quality.

  • of course toyota did not had a luxury brand on the market like VW at the time, on the other hand , it was risky for VW to canibalize sales from their luxury divission: Audi.love the Phaeton tough...

  • Als dit fragment met de Mercedes S-klasse werd vergeleken zou de Pheaton egt wel meer verkocht worden volgens mij =)

  • Volkswagen dropped the ball here in one of the biggest marketing blunders of all time. Had they simply marketed the car as a new luxury division brand called the "Phaeton" it would have found loyal customers. When Toyota went into the luxury car market they didn't call their first model the Toyota LS 400. They gave the brand its own name---Lexus. VW should have done that with the Phaeton, instead of calling it the Volkswagen Phaeton with a big "VW" on the grill. Great car, bad marketing.

  • @nelsonafonso1 No but the badge don't have any value for a high end luxury saloon. Not that they should charge you more for a new badge but like Toyota have Lexus and all that. Lexus has their own reputation even though it basically just is a high end Toyota because they know that Toyota isn't exclusive enough.

  • @dude2106 VW is not people's car for many, many years ..

  • @X28051986X that´s right, its stupid for people to have preconception with cars volkswagen because vlolkswagen is not people's car for a long long time...

even when they created the Beetle, it was still better than the 2 cv citroen fiat 500, and yet it was people's car ...

now volkswagem makes remarkable cars! you have a remarkable car!

  • Whoever doesn't like this car has absolutely no ideas of what cars should be and completely dismisses the heritage of VW - the pursuit of perfect engineering. VW means people's car, but Phaeton by no means indicate the same idea. It simply represents high-end luxury, making itself the immediate competitor of BMW 7 series and Mercedes S Class - only with less price. People who care about their cars should seriously consider this underrated brand.
